"The
Berenson House - Tel Aviv Hotel" is located in the heart of the charming
alleyways of the old city of Safed, an ancient town in the northern Galilee
region of Israel.
All the historical sites of Safed, its synagogues, galleries, restaurants, and
museums are within walking distance of the hotel. Meron is a 10-minute drive
through the mountains, the city of Tiberias and the Sea of Galilee are 30 minutes
away, and Nazareth about 40 minutes.
The Golan region, Jordan River, rafting, jeep tours and horseback riding are
just a short, scenic drive from Safed. Beautiful gardens, pine trees and magnificent
mountain views of the Galilee surround the hotel.
The stone building was built in 1856 to house the Austrian Consulate in the
time of Turkish rule. In 1948, during Israel's war for independence, the famous
Palmach Brigade used the building as their base of operations. Fighting from
the hotel, these soldiers fought throughout the alleys of the old city to liberate
Safed.
The building was taken over by the Berenson family in 1950, who continue to
serve visitors of to this day. We look forward to welcoming you to our mystical
city and hope to make your stay in Israel an enjoyable and memorable experience.
